Description
The flower of a Beavertail Prickly Pear (Opuntia basilaris) is backlit by the late afternoon sun as it blooms in early April at the beginning of spring in the Sonoran Desert. This specimen was found near Tucson, Arizona, and the plant is native to the low deserts there, along with Nevada, southern California and Utah, plus Sonora and Baja California south of the border.
This photograph was made on 35mm film and is cropped to the traditional 4:5 ratio format.
