Morning Light, Mount Whitney
Artist

Medium
Photograph - Fine Art Digital Photography
Description
The warm light of early morning graces Mount Whitney and the majestic eastern face of the Sierra Nevada. Mount Whitney rises to 14,505 feet, making it the tallest peak in the lower 48 States. Mount Whitney Portal campground, where this photograph was made, is 6,700 feet below the summit. The sun has risen just enough that the blue, cyan and green wavelengths of light are still scattered by the atmosphere, while red and yellow wavelengths of the spectrum are less scattered, rendering the great gray granite wall a vivid orange tone.
This fine art photograph is the fourth in a sequence of six images capturing the exquisite changes of colors on these magnificent mountains in the early morning light.
