Description
This old cabin sits high in La Plata Canyon of southwestern Colorado and I was fortunate enough to be there as the aspen leaves were turning and at the peak of their color. I thought is most appropriate to photograph this aged structure in the autumn of its years with the brilliant fall colors surrounding it.
I had intended to drive west from Mesa Verde National Park that morning, but a huge Golden Eagle swooped low over my hood, looked over at me and flew on towards the east. Iβm at least swift enough to recognize a sign when I see it, but I didnβt know where I was to go. I ended up in La Plata Canyon near the town of Durango, surrounded by spectacular autumn color.
CONTEST WINNER: 1st Place, "Forgotten By Time - Fall Colors" contest, sponsored by the Forgotten By Time art group, October 2023.

Wow Douglas ... what a spectacular find and capture. I've never been out went to see the quaking aspens (I'm assuming that's what these are?) but they draw my eye in every piece of art that I see them in. I am in love with that wonderful cabin too ... whoever built it had an eye for style and design ... look at the size of that window and the pretty, decorative front door!!! Great, great image!!!! l/f t p fb
