Description
Western Maryland Scenic Railroad #1309 pulls the Polar Express holiday train up and around Helmsetter's Curve in Maryland.
Constructed in 1949 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, Chesapeake & Ohio Railway steam locomotive no. 1309 was built to handle the railroad’s heaviest coal trains throughout Kentucky and West Virginia until it was retired in 1956. Today it has been fully restored by the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. It runs between Cumberland and Frostburg, Maryland, and in its 2-6-6-2 configuration is the largest operating steam locomotive of its type in the world.

how lovely, Douglas. It's like seeing history and going backwards. Love old engines or locomotives and wished I could hear the whistle that would go along with it when rounding the curve.
