Artist's Description
"Wonder in the glory of the evening skies when the sun’s rays grace clouds with sublime color.
Embrace the gathering dusk.
Twilight becomes night, and from darkness shines the light of the universe."
- From my poem "Welcome the Light", copyright 2018.
I had envisioned this image when I saw in early 1998 a crescent moon would be close to planets Saturn and Mars for one evening, with a good chance of the reflective phenomenon called ‘earthshine’ on the moon. I deliberately wanted to capture this composition with the deep blue of the night sky above the lingering glow of sunset. I went out and set up at my favored spot at Saguaro National Park west of Tucson, Arizona, then settled in to wait for the light.
As the moment approached I made my best guess for the exposure and got ready. Suddenly, just as the light got right, a high cloud started to form right in the middle of the frame! Oh, no! But as the cloud thickened it started to reflect...
