Description
The names of some of the men and women who lost their lives during the Vietnam War with reflection of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and Washington Monument in the distance.
58,320 names are etched into the polished marble of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall located near the Lincoln Memorial in Congressional Gardens on the National Mall. The names are of the people who died as a direct result of their service to our country in the Vietnam conflict from 1956 through 1975.
The names are representatives of the tragedy that befell an entire generation of young Americans, and they are etched into 140 panels totaling nearly 500 feet in length, 250 feet each on two axis, and tapering from over ten feet to less than a foot in height. These panels are sunken into the ground with the earth behind them, and the Memorial was designed by then-young architect Maya Lin.
The Wall is now visited by over four million people each year; remembering and paying respects to brothers, comrades, fathers, and now grandfathers. It is an emotionally moving moment to walk along The Wall and to read the names. And to know that with each name died the hopes, dreams, and love, along with the human potential of these brave, young Americans.

It surprised me how moving this memorial is in person. Wonderful image.
Douglas Taylor replied:
Thank you for your wonderful compliment, Sharon. Yes, this place is amazingly emotional. If a person does not feel an aching in their heart as they leave here, they should check for a pulse.

This is an amazing capture of The Wall. I was there recently and tried to get the right angle and just couldn't. You knocked it out of the park with your vision. l/f
