Description
The waxy white flower of the giant Saguaro cactus open at night and remain open only into the following day. They are pollinated by bats at night, and by birds and bees during the day. The flowers typically appear in May and early June. The Saguaro is usually between 40 to 60 years of age when they first bloom, and the blossoms are found high atop the apex of the main stem and at the ends of arms, which only grow after the cactus is around 60 to 80 years old. The seeds of the Saguaro are extremely tiny, though the cactus can live to well in excess of 200 years and reach over 50 feet tall.
