Purple Waterman Mountains Majesty Panorama
Artist
Douglas Taylor
Medium
Photograph - Fine Art Digital Photography
Description
In the moments before a summer sunset the Waterman Mountains northwest of Tucson, Arizona take on a purple cast as they are shadowed with the sun almost directly behind them. The rugged mountains are entirely within the Ironwood Forest National Monument.
Just like in the lyrics of the song, "From purple mountains majesty, above the fruited plains..." Except in this case the Avra Valley, populated by a few hundred hearty souls and devoid of agriculture, is spread beneath the shadow of the range and separates Ironwood Forest National Monument from Saguaro National Park in the Tucson Mountains where this photograph was made on June 8, 2022. It was one of a sequence of test photographs made to familiarize myself with a new (at long last) and proper long lens designed for digital photography.
This true panoramic view is formatted to the traditional 1:3 ratio for when a wide, colorful, unique and dramatic nature scene is desired to fulfill a demanding design requirement. It can be obtained in widths up to 9 feet in length with astonishing clarity.
