Description
Summer nights in the Desert Southwest can be good for chasing lightning storms, and sometimes the results can be completely unexpected. The storm in question made a sudden turn to the south and I declined the pursuit over unknown and rugged terrain. I found a large open area east of Tucson, Arizona to observe the night sky, hoping for another storm. The clouds suddenly parted and the Milky Way shined bright in the southern sky with the receding storm still being lit up by lightning.
"Celestial Storm" was selected by the BBC as one of the Best Reader's Pictures of 2018.
