Description
The Olympic Mountains are a comparatively small range of mountains on the Olympic Peninsula of Northwest Washington. They aren’t particularly high, with Mount Olympus crowning the range at just 7,962 feet elevation. What makes them remarkable is these mountains literally arise out of Puget Sound at sea level to the east with steep sided valleys that plunge deeply to that level from the mountains. The upper slopes intercept a very large amount of moisture in the form of snow as it comes ashore from the North Pacific, and the lower slopes receive more precipitation than any other location in the lower 48 states. This photograph was made on a spectacular early May morning from Hurricane Ridge at the elevation of 5,242 feet on the north side of the range in Olympic National Park. Olympic National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This photograph is cropped to the 1:2 ratio "Vista" format for when a bold, beautiful black and white, wide image is needed to fulfill a demanding design requirement. This photograph can be printed up to 4' X 8' with remarkable clarity, and is stunning when presented as a metal print or stretched canvas. Others of this format can be found in my "Wide Vistas" collection.
